Why the Cinema is my go-to escape + My Top 10 Recent Watches ๐ฟ๐ฌ
Between balancing university, part-time work, and life's everyday chaos, finding ways to unwind is essential. Some people love hitting the gym, others go for long walks- but for me? There's nothing better than escaping into the world of cinema. Sitting in a dark theatre, completely immersed in a story, with no distractions? Pure Bliss!
Going to the cinema isn't just entertainment; it is a form of self-care. It's a chance to disconnect, reset my mind, and experience a film the way it was meant to be seen- on the big screen, with surround sound, and (of course) a bucket of SWEET popcorn. And the best part? Having an MyOmniPass makes it so much easier to keep up with all the best new releases without worrying about ticket prices.
Why I Love Having a MyOmniPass ๐️
If you're a regular cinema-goer like myself, and your local cinema is an Omniplex paying a monthly subscription of £11.99 for a MyOmniPass is a total game changer. For a monthly fee, I get unlimited access to movies- which means I can watch as many films as I want without the guilt of spending too much. It's honestly one of the best investments I have made for myself because:
✅ It saves money. Seeing just two or three movies a month already makes it worth the cost.
✅ No pressure to pick just one movie. If there are multiple movie releases I'm excited about, I can watch them all!
✅ It encourages me to try different genres. With no financial risk, I have ended up discovering films I might not have paid for otherwise.
✅ It's the perfect solo or social activity. Whether I go alone for some me-time or meet up with friends, it's always a great plan.
If you're a film lover, or even just looking for a budget-friendly way to unwind, I cannot recommend an OmniPass enough!
My Top 10 Recent Cinema Watches ๐ฟ
Now, onto the movies I've recently seen in the cinema- and let me tell you, it's been an incredible lineup. If you're looking for recommendations, here are my top picks from the big screen lately:
1. Dune: Part Two ๐ฅ
Denis Villeneuve has done it again. Dune: Part Two is a visually stunning masterpiece that somehow surpasses the first film. But unfortunately has been snubbed at the Oscars. The world-building, the cinematography, the performances, the stacked cast - everything is a chef's kiss. If you love sci-fi, this is an absolute must-watch.
2. A real Pain ๐ญ
This was such an unexpected gem. Jesse Eisenberg's directorial debut with co-star Kieran Culkin together they delivered a heartfelt, hilarious, and emotional story about family grief, and personal growth. It's one of those films that sticks with you long after the credits roll.
3. Gladiator II ⚔️
The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott's Gladiator finally hit the big screen, and wow- it did not disappoint. The action sequences are intense, the cinematography is breathtaking, and it brings a fresh and powerful continuation of the original story. Epic in every way, and you can never complain about two hours of Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal ๐
4. Heretic ๐ฑ
For horror and Hugh Grant fans, Heretic is a must-watch. It's eerie, intense, and full of psychological twists that keep you on edge, and Hugh Grant brings an element of unexpected comedy to the film. Definitely one of the best horror films I've seen in a while.
5. Small Things Like These ๐ฎ๐ช
This one hit hard. A slow-burning but deeply emotional drama, Small Things Like These is a powerful look at morality and personal responsibility, as well as a reflection on Ireland's covered up history. Cillian Murphy's performance is phenomenal.
6. The Substance ๐งช
This was one of the most unique and unsettling films I've seen recently. A wild blend of body horror, sci-fi, and social commentary, The Substance is one of those films which shocks you and lingers in your mind for days.
7. Nosferatu ๐ง๐ป
I love a good horror classic, and this new take on Nosferatu with the stunning Lilly-Rose Depp did not disappoint. Creepy, atmospheric, and beautifully shot- it's everything you would want from a gothic vampire film.
8. Conclave ๐
A gripping political thriller with an incredible cast the adaptation of Robert Harris' bestselling book Conclave, was an intense watch. The film dives into the secretive world of Vatican politics, and the tension throughout is insane and not to mention the plot twist ๐คฏ This is an amazing must-watch film.
9. LongLegs ๐ช
If you're into psychological thrillers, LongLegs is an absolute must-watch. It's dark, disturbing, and keeps you guessing the entire time. Plus, Nicolas Cage is terrifying in this, arguably one of his best performances.
10. Monkey Man ๐ฅ
Dev Patel absolutely killed it in his directorial debut, in this action-packed revenge thriller. The film explores themes of political repression and religious persecution. Monkey Man has some of the best fight sequences I've seen in ages, and the story keeps you hooked from start to finish.
Final Thoughts: Why the Cinema Will Always Be My Favourite Escape ๐ฅ
In a world where many of us are glued to our phones, doomscrolling and consuming useless media, being able to step into a cinema and fully immerse myself in a story feels like a rare luxury. Whether I'm watching a gripping thriller, a breathtaking sci-fi, or a thought-provoking indie film, there's something so therapeutic about those few hours of complete escape.
So if you ever feel overwhelmed with university, work, or life in general, treat yourself to a cinema night. Grab some popcorn, switch off your phone, and let yourself get lost in a story- it's honestly one of the best ways to reset.
And if you're serious about movies? An OmniPass is totally worth it!
